Evening Concert

The first days are traditionally the most challenging on the NucKids Project. Participants are trying to get used to new routine, to find new friends, and in general, to understand what is going on. Staging a musical is an important and complicated task, so the kids immediately plunge into the process. And the internal casting becomes the first task for them.
Internal casting is another audition of the project participants, which allows the members of the creative team to get acquainted with the kids personally and see their talents in person. It is always held literally on the second or third day of the project. And this is not a coincidence! The musical has to be staged in the shortest possible time – in 2018 only 23 days are allotted for the preparation of the performance. Therefore, there is no time for delay! The next day after the difficult journey to Hungary, our atomic artists already gathered in the auditorium of the boarding house in Tolna, where the administrative and creative team was waiting for them. After a friendly introduction to the project teachers, the children lined up to show them their talents once again.
“We had an internal casting today. It went really well. The scariest thing was, of course, waiting outside the door for your turn. But then you get on stage and see the faces of the teachers, they look at you in a very kind way and support you. And immediately the anxiety goes away. You just show everything you know how to do. Also, the counselors and kids who are worried about you and cheer you up help a lot”.
Saltykov Mikhail, 15 years old from Nizhny Novgorod.
This year the NucKids Project celebrates its small anniversary – 10 years. Therefore, the creative group decided to make a feature film with the elements of reality show about the life of our atomic teenagers. But both teachers and kids will need an incredible amount of effort to make this wonderful idea come to life. The film crew literally follows the participants and shoots all the behind-the-scenes life of the project. Every now and then you can hear the director’s command: “Stop! One more take!” And that’s it! You have to literally live this moment again. This format is the first time at NucKids, and, to be honest, it’s a bit unusual.
The internal casting also did not escape the eyes of the cameramen. The children sometimes had to repeat the prepared pieces several times to be able to choose the best take. And still need to remember to communicate with the creative team. In other words, the work is not easy. But our atomic artists were at their best. They coped as true professionals!
“I was among the first to go through the internal casting. It was a little scary, because there was also a film crew in the hall besides the teachers, shooting a movie about us. They lined up the cameras for a long time, and then asked me to dance a piece that I had prepared, as many as 4 times! It was hard, because every time I was afraid that I might make a mistake. But on the other hand, it was nice that they chose me for the shoot and worked with me the longest. It is a pleasure for an artist to be noticed!”
Aglaya Sukhanova, 12 years old, Moscow
So, the internal audition has finished. The project participants demonstrated everything they are capable of to the teachers. The children were so well prepared that the members of the creative team were simply delighted with their atomic talents. Now they will have to make perhaps the most difficult choice for the whole project – to assign the roles to the participants.
This is not an easy task, so the teachers decided to take time out and hold an Acting Skills Competition to make a final decision. The traditional ASC will be held on the project in the next few days, and that’s when we will find out who will be the little star of the project in 2018.
