Schedule for the day: Rehearsals, rehearsals and more rehearsals!

Staging a play is a complex creative process that involves immersing in the roles, understanding the dialogues, staging, choreographing dances and recording songs.

An important role in the creation of a musical is played by the production shop, which is engaged in the development, visualization and design of scenery and costumes. Usually, the rehearsal period in the theater lasts several months, but the NucKids Project Team has to cope with this task in three weeks.

A script reading is the very first stage in working on a musical, which involves getting to know the play and its characters. The director and actors read the script together, discuss it, make adjustments and act out some of the scenes.

The distribution of roles is the next stage of the musical’s preparation. This year the casting for the roles was combined with the Acting Competition.  Children were divided into groups and under the guidance of counselors were learning the script in order to compete for their favorite role.

“I love rehearsals, they are a very special thing for me! Especially on NucKids! We conduct the scenes very quickly with all the casts and each cast brings something different to the play. Lots of characters, which is a joy because everyone has got their role. The director is always willing to help, discuss the role, and is always open to new ideas and suggestions. I am thrilled with this working process!” – Polina Zimina told us about the rehearsal process.

Along with the actors, dancers under the guidance of the choreographer-director of the project – Maxim Nedolechko and vocalists with the vocal teacher – Alexey Baykov and the composer of the project – Igor Smirnov begin to work. Recording of the musical songs was held for 2 days at the recording studio in St. Petersburg.

“There’s a little more choreography this year than last year, and we staged 4 dances in 4 days! They are very cool, some of them even have acrobatic tricks. The atmosphere at rehearsals is friendly, we have time to work and laugh. Staging dances is difficult, so you always have to listen to the choreographer, be involved in the process and be attentive. Despite the exhaustion, I am ready to come to rehearsals again and again!” – Ekaterina Lazareva shared with us.

On August 7th the audience will already see the premiere of the musical in St. Petersburg at the A.A. Bryantsev Theater of Young Spectators.
