Red alert!

This year the very first premiere of the musical NucKids 2016 will be held in the Palace of Youth Creativity (Anichkov Palace), in the very center of St. Petersburg. A huge hall, professional stage, private dressing rooms – all this was waiting for the kids at the venue. Very soon, they will have to play their first premiere here and start their tour of Russian cities.

The dress rehearsals on stage are a very difficult thing. First, the size of the venue is much larger than in the rehearsal camp in Repino. The kids had to orient themselves and quickly memorize the changes. The ballet dancers had the hardest time, as the young artists had to “build” each dance pattern anew.

Second, the children saw the scenery of the performance for the first time. It consists of elastic bands with which the artists have to interact constantly in the course of the performance. The scenery this year is very functional. The main characters, the heroes of fantasy novels, ballet dancers, vocal soloists, everyone actually works with them. That is why it was very important for the kids to try out the scenery, get to live with it.

“I think the first run-through on the big stage went well! We mastered the scenery, learned how to work with it. This year they turned out to be very unusual and interesting. Just like our musical itself. I think it all looks amazing from the audience. All the musical pieces turned out well. Our choreographer Maxim quickly oriented us on the new points, so we were not confused and danced coherently and neatly!”.

In addition, it was at the Palace of Youth Creativity that the children worked together with all the technical services for the first time: lights, sound, curtain, snow, smoke and much more. For the first time the project participants played the performance with microphones, which caused some difficulties. For example, how to put on the microphone so that it does not interfere with the costume? Or how to attach it correctly, so that the heavy breathing could not be heard during difficult dance numbers? Nevertheless, the sound is not everything. You still need to stand at the right point on the stage to get into the light, to memorize it. In general, the work was not easy. However, the kids coped, and now the musical is getting a finished form.

“I really enjoyed working on a professional stage. The first time we worked with microphones. It was unusual, but there is still some time to get used to it. The run-through was productive; everyone tried to give their best. Because we realize that the premiere is just a little bit away, and we cannot sit and relax. At this run-through, we felt the spirit of the stage, finally figured out who goes where. In general, we are ready for the premiere!

The final preparations are complete. All the artists know their text, movements and musical parts. All of them, without exception, know how to work with microphones and scenery. Everything is ready. It remains to have a good night’s sleep before the premiere, and go into action! Very soon, the first spectators will see the musical Imagineers of the XXI Century!
